Important:  Read before posting a support request.

1.  Please first skim through the old comments looking for a similar problem.  Also, double check your links and make sure you followed the instructions.

2.  In your comment, include a url to a page where you have tried to get the plugin working.  Obviously, you don’t want to leave a non-working plugin on the front page of your website.  So, test the plugin on a testing page.  To do this, you need to create a test page and apply a page template that includes the snippet: <?php include(FCG_PLUGIN_FILE); ?>.

3.  Please keep in mind that is a free plugin and I’m doing this in my free time.  I may not get back to you immediately.

    I would like to use your plugin but I have a few issues:
    1. After I inserted the proper code into the div for the feature image, my site now produces this error:
    “$end in /home/content/75/6970075/html/wp-content/themes/structure_theme_white/home.php on line 65″. As you can see, I use Organic Themes’ Structure theme (free version).

    2. Your package is in an upgrade loop. It repeatedly asks me to update in the plugin menu.

  3. 3 Chris said at 1:14 am on November 9th, 2010:

    Hi Cale,

    Thanks for report. I think you must have deleted something you shouldn’t have in the Organic. Have you tried pasting it in without deleting anything?

    I’ll look into getting the upgrade loop fixed. This is my first WordPress Plugin and I’m still learning how to deal with version control.

    Hi Pericard,

    This feature isn’t offered out of the box. You should be able to achieve this by editing the source code. You’d need to adjust the CSS width and remove the php that get’s the post title and displays it. You’ll need to edit featured-posts.php and jquery-slider-for-featured-content.php.

    I might add this as a feature in the future. If I do, I’ll try to email you and let you know it’s up.

    I disabled the plugin because it didn’t work.

    It appeared to load properly, but the page never changes.

    Also, it displayed all posts, not just those labeled “featured.”

    Also, it kept saying it needed to be updated. I updated, but the message doesn’t go away.

    Hello Chris,
    I am trying to use your slider plugin without the right thumbnails and links. I have changed the css to the new size and have removed the code for the right column.

    My issue is that I have 2 featured posts, but only 1 is displaying and it does not seem to be moving at all. Is there a js file that I need to have in place for this to work?

  9. 9 Chris said at 2:32 am on November 10th, 2010:

    @Bob: Unfortunately, I can’t guarantee the slider won’t conflict with other sliders on the same page.

    @Liz. It appears your image is being resized to an incorrect size. Can you try it using a standard size image?

    I really like this plugin and I’d love to use it for my site.

    But, I’m using the post thumbnail feature included in the most recent versions of wordpress and I’d like the slider to reference the post thumbnail instead of pulling from the slider_image like it is now. What do I need to change?

  11. 11 sam said at 12:48 pm on November 14th, 2010:

    on y image slider, there is a gray bar next to the main image, and i found that our slider is longer than yours, therefore the image dose not fill the entire box, leaving a small gap to the right of the image

  12. 12 Chris said at 5:25 am on November 16th, 2010:

  14. 14 Fslynx said at 10:52 pm on November 16th, 2010:

    Hi! I’m triying to use the plugin but it doesn’t show the captios or images. I’ve followed the steps, I’ve added the custom field “slider_image” with the url in my gallery.

    After that, I’ve seen that the script “tinytumb” is calling this url:

    I believe that the problem is the double “//” in the src=//wp-content….

    The image is in my server:

    How I can fix this? Thanks!!!!

  15. 15 Chris said at 11:35 pm on November 16th, 2010:

    The problem isn’t the double //. My timthumb script works when I add an extra backslash to the url.

    The problem is your permissions. Timthumb needs to cache the images in the /scripts/cache folder of the plugin. You need to make sure that permissions for both of these folders is: 775. That allows the script to save the images. The easiest way is to do this with your FTP program.

    Please let me know how it goes.

  16. 16 Fslynx said at 8:31 am on November 17th, 2010:

    Hi! I followed your instructions and it is working now.
    I would like to say that your work is really amazing, I like this plugin a lot and I hope you can continue developing it.

    Thank you very very much!!!

  17. 17 Dan B said at 9:02 pm on November 17th, 2010:

    Hello, I have had a problem similar to Fslynx. I am not getting a URL from get_post_meta for the post thumbnail.

    This is the result for the img src:

    Right where it should be pulling…nothing. So, I dug a little deeper, looked at the PHP.

    The value of $newurl relies on $post->ID, so I went a few lines up and stole the code, just to see if I could get the URL to post (and worry about the slash formatting later), but when I did this…

    ID, ‘slider_image’, true) ?>

    …it did not print -anything-, which was really confusing, because if I did this…

    …it worked and gave me the slider_image value.

    So, the problem that I’m seeing is $post->ID isn’t returning a value. Hidden within HTML comments, this didn’t return anything

    <!— ID ?> –>

    Curious what the problem could be – would love to implement this plugin, but currently this little problem needs resolution!

    Hi! It’s me again. How can I add a little description of the post in the caption?
    I would like to get the same as your demo posts:

    “Demo Post 1:

    This is an demo WordPress post. An excerpt of this post will show up on the Jquery Slider for Feat….read more”

    I don’t have the text, only the title. Thanks!!!

  20. 20 Chris said at 1:19 am on November 18th, 2010:

    That is really strange…I think you’ve correctly identified the problem, but I don’t know why $post->ID wouldn’t work. Are you using an older version of WordPress?

    @Fslynx. The description is automatically taken from the first so many characters of the post OR from the post excerpt if it exists. Is this not working for you?

  21. 21 Fslynx said at 9:12 am on November 18th, 2010:

    Hi! I only can see the title and “…read more”. There is something special to add for getting the description? Any custom field or something?

    Hi Dan,

    plugin looks sweet. Though, I haven’t gotten it to work on my site. I followed the instructions for setup and even gave the script/cache folders 777 permissions. No pictures or posts show up. Any thoughts?

  23. 23 Chris said at 3:31 am on November 19th, 2010:

    @Fslynx: Try setting a custom Excerpt. Excerpt is a field provided by WordPress when you write a post.

    @Cujo: I’m not sure what is wrong. Are you pasting the code into the page theme code? Have you tried pasting the code in different place?

    Not sure if you can help me out, but I added the plugin to my site, and it works flawlessly, except for one thing. In the top nav-bar, the scrolling image goes in-front of the dropdowns.

    I was wondering if there was something in the code to allow the nav bar to overlay the scroll. or vice-versa.

    Any suggestions as to how I can fix this? Thanks for any help you can offer, as I’d really like to use this slider!

  29. 29 Chris said at 5:18 am on November 21st, 2010:

    @Marios: It should work if you paste into the index.php template. If it doesn’t…is anything showing up?

    @Christian. I can’t see the problem you describe on your site. Something else seems to have gone wrong.

    @Jillian. The slider changes the styles associated with divs called #featured. So, if you have some divs named that on your page, it may cause some problems. You can change the styles by going into the plugin folder and editing the source for jquery-slider-for-featured-content.php. Or, you might want to change the names of the divs you use in your theme.

    Thanks for your previous reply. Embarrassing as it may be, I must admit the my previous problem (slider not being displayed on the home page) was caused by another plugin I was using, Automatic Category Excluder. I excluded posts from my “featured” category from being showed on my home page, therefore the slideshow wasn’t showing anything.

  37. 37 Luc said at 5:26 am on November 26th, 2010:

    Great plugin. I had some problems with posts including pictures at the top of the post. What happened is that there were no caption and the “Read more” link did not work. The only way to get to the post was to click on the title. So, I added a line in the featured-posts.php file to strip html tags and now it works fine. Maybe it could be useful to some other people. This is the line I added at line 50:
    $content = strip_tags($content);

    Hi Chris, I recently installed your plugin and got it working. But my problem is that the photo in the featured panel area is the size of a thumbnail–it does not occupy the whole square alloted for the featured photo. Please let help me figure this out.

  40. 40 Chris said at 5:53 pm on December 2nd, 2010:

    @Adipedia: You can use a page template and apply it to the page you want the slider on and then use go into the WordPress settings and use that page as your front page. You should check out to get started.

    @Mighty: Your problem is that you have changed the size of the div but not the size of the photo, so it won’t fit. It’s tricky to change the size of the slider…you should go into the plugin edit featured-posts.php and search for &h=250&w=400&zc=1. Replace h with the desired height and w with the desired width. These dimensions have to be proportionate to the size of your image though.

    Great plug in I would have loved to use it and do my letter J podcast on it but I spent an hour trying to solve the problem with it without any luck.

    Here is the issue, I could get everything to work except every time I loaded the plug in into a page it would flip my page to whatever post was last in the list. this happened no matter which category I chose to display.

    Example if I had four posts to feature what ever post was in position 4 the page would lock to no matter the category.

    If you have any suggestions or a solution that would be great and I can add you back to my podcast.

  50. 50 B Lopez said at 10:35 pm on December 19th, 2010:

    Hello Chris,

    First I want to thank you for developing such a great plugin.

    We have recently implemented your j-Query Slider plugin our business blog but unfortunately there are two issues going on that I am hoping you can find a quick resolution to.

    The first issue is that two of the larger images present a “Red X” over top of them. Both images DO display so not sure why the “Red X” is coming up at all? There are no other images in either post that it could be referencing.

    Secondly the links on the right hand side of the slider with thumbnails of the same do not point to the post url that lays over top of the larger image itself.

    Instead when you mouse-over each link or thumbnail it gives you a url something like this and NONE of them are clickable: ….(each ending with a different number that what was referenced above.)

    What could be going wrong? It has been a very frustrating 2 days in trying to make heads or tails out this so hoping you can help. Much appreciated.

    We have the plugin installed here: and we have strange ‘red x’ image missing boxes showing up under the headline in IE (looks fine in Firefox)… can you help us figure out what’s going wrong there?

  52. 52 Chris said at 5:48 am on December 21st, 2010:

    Sorry for the delay on replies…it was finals week!

    @Dan. My guess would be differences in your server settings (like PHP settings, or version), but I don’t know of any known bugs yet. Sorry!

    @John. Thanks for considering me for the podcast…unfortunately I don’t have any suggestions for you.

    @John and Alex. Could post an example page with the slider to show what is going on?

    @Kelly. The problem is that you are using an image in the post and the slider is trying to include that image in the excerpt. You can fix this by following:
    1. Open up the plugin folder
    2. Edit the featured-posts.php
    3. Add the following at line 50:
    $content = strip_tags($content);
    4. Save and re-upload the plugin

    This will be fixed in the upcoming release. Thanks to Luc for this fix.

  53. 53 Shelli said at 9:36 am on December 21st, 2010:

    Thank you for the great plugin and for how hard you are working to keep with the comments here.

    I put the code for the plugin at the bottom of the header.php file and it is in the proper location vertically.

    The side to side alignment is the problem. I would imagine this could be fixed somewhere within my CSS but I’m a novice at understanding how to do that.

    Which of the CSS files would I attack and what would coding look like to “bump” this thing over to right so it’s centered on my site?

  54. 54 B Lopez said at 5:25 pm on December 21st, 2010:

    Hello Chris,

    Cn you tell me where exactly line 50 is in the code?

    I am only looking at it from the actual edit function under the WP dasboard for the plugin itself?

    Will this also fix the the issue with NONE of the thumbnails and linked titles next to those thumbnails for that matter in the slider showing : ….(each ending with a different number that what was referenced above.) NOT being clickable?

    The links displaying over the main image in the slider are clickable, again not the smaller corresponding images and text next the each one that appear to the right.

    When hyperlinked it displays a “#fragment-” and number next to it.

    I just want to make sure I have the correct area you reference at line 50 before doing this since I don’t have a standalone toolkit for editing PHP outside of what you see in the WP editor. It doesn’t reference it by line in there.

  55. 55 B Lopez said at 6:12 pm on December 21st, 2010:

    Hi Chris,

    It appears adding the code you suggested at line 50 worked and got rid of the red x over image issue.

    However the issue with the NONE of the thumbnails and linked titles next to those thumbnails for that matter in the slider showing ….(each ending with a different number that what was referenced above.) are still NOT being clickable.

    The url contains some sort of fragment reference instead and we would like to know how to correct this asap.

    Again thanks for your help.

  71. 71 Chris said at 4:58 pm on January 19th, 2011:

    @Pranjal. It appears that your problem is with permissions. As I said to an earlier poster:

    Timthumb needs to cache the images in the /scripts/cache folder of the plugin. You need to make sure that permissions for both of these folders is: 775. That allows the script to save the images. The easiest way is to do this with your FTP program.

    @Becko. That is strange. Can you send me the url of a test page? You can revert to the old version by downloading:
    and uploading it to your plugin directory.

    Yes! i had changed the permissions but, still not working!

    Hi Chris,

    Your plugin works on my website but with some bugs.

    See it on, maybe it’s a problem with UFT-8

    What do you think ?

  76. 76 Chris said at 1:25 am on January 21st, 2011:

    I can’t reproduce your error on my WordPress install when I used non standard characters. However, I think the problem may be an UTF-8 issue with the custom field for the replacement title. If you get rid of replacement_title does the problem persist?

  77. 77 Pranjal said at 1:49 pm on January 21st, 2011:

    Hello but, please answer me that how to make it work on my site.

  78. 78 Pranjal said at 6:57 pm on January 22nd, 2011:

    A suggestion for you hope it might be helpful to you that instead of entering custom field url for image, your plugin must catch image from feature image of the post itself, this will not only be making easy to use but, also reduce “no image appears/displaying issues.”

  79. 79 Chris said at 8:02 pm on January 22nd, 2011:

    @Pranjal. If it is not permissions, I can’t figure out what the problem might be. The url of the images appears to be correct. I appreciate the suggestion to use featured images. That is the next step in the plugin. Look for that option soon. Thanks for the feedback.

    Can the featured posts titles on the right be linked to the post page? If so how can I do this instead of them linking to

  81. 81 Chris said at 2:31 am on January 28th, 2011:

    @Michael. No, not at this time. In the future, I would like to make that an option. The conflict, is that you don’t want people browsing the topics to automatically go to a story. Maybe, I’ll add a readme button that appears upon hover.

  82. 82 Michael said at 1:28 pm on January 28th, 2011:

    @Chris. Thanks. That makes sense. A button would be nice! Can the larger image be made clickable?

    Good work. Thanks for making this available.

  83. 83 Chris Bush said at 1:24 am on February 2nd, 2011:

    Hi there,
    I have managed to install your plugin on my site and have customised it but there are a couple of things I am unable to do and would like your help if possible.

    If you visit the above page, you will see that I have reduced the width of the slider so that it can fit with my theme… I’ve also changed the colours and increased the size of the “info” tab that slides up for each slide so that it can fit 3 lines of text instead of 2.

    Unfortunately, no matter what I try… I can’t seem to get the featured image itself to maintain the correct size. I have changed the width of the featured area to 380px but the image remains at 400… Where can I change this? It is blocking the arrows as it currently stands.

    Also, even though I have increased the size of the info tab that slides up for each image… it seems to reset itself after the first slide and go back to “2 lines”.

    I look forward to your help.

  84. 84 Chris said at 5:02 am on February 2nd, 2011:

    @Chris. You need to change the parameter of the php function that resizes the image. Open up the plugin file featured-post.php. Go to line 47. Replace the numbers in &h=250&w=400 with your desired height and widths

  85. 85 Jon said at 12:09 am on February 10th, 2011:

    My images are not appearing, I have followed the advice previous on here about changing the permissions for Scripts and Cache folders to 775 (also tried 777) and still the images are not appearing. Anything else i should try ?

  86. 86 Chris said at 1:43 am on February 10th, 2011:

    @Jon. Are you using slider_image as a custom field? My tests indicate that your permissions are correct. Try setting the slider_image custom field as :×224.jpg and let me know if it works.

  87. 87 Jon said at 3:22 am on February 10th, 2011:

    I have added a custom-field now and it is displaying correctly.

    We had this installed by a developer a few months ago. He set it up so that you did not have to insert a custom field, It would automatically pull the first image from the post and show that, and if there was no image in the post, it would display our logo. I think what has happened is, somebody has clicked upgrade for your plugin, and it has wiped out any code modifications that were in the plugin. I would love it if i knew how to have like we used to and not have to enter a custom field, as we have have an autoblog on our site which we want to use, so want to display an image automatically.

    This is the code we have in functions.php which was supposed to display our logo if no post image was found.

    function catch_that_image() {
    global $post, $posts;
    $first_img = ”;
    $output = preg_match_all(‘//i’, $post->post_content, $matches);
    $first_img = $matches [1] [0];

    // no image found display default image instead
    $first_img = “”;
    return $first_img;

    @Dwaynne: You can change the size of the thumbnail by going into the plugin folder and editing featured-posts.php. Go to line 24 and replace h=50&w=80 with h=90&w=140.

    @Tom. It looks like you have resized your theme to fit the the slider. In the future, I hope to make it easier for people to resize the slider to fit their theme.

  95. 95 Chris said at 8:15 pm on March 8th, 2011:

    @Max: You need to change the z-index in the css. You should go into the css for your page and go to the part for your drop down. You should add the z index like this:

    z-index:10 (some big number her

    Alternatively, you can go into jquery-slider-for-featured-content.php and edit the CSS in there to make the z index smaller or negative.

    Thanks for creating this plugin. I have a version running on my site that I’ve made quite a few modifications to. I made a few more changes on my local environment, but when I upload the files to my staging site ( the changes I’ve made to the file jquery-slider-for-featured-content.php are not being pulled into the site. Although I’ve verified that I’ve correctly uploaded the file to the server, if I do a view source on the site’s home page, I only see the old code in the header of the page.

    I wanted to see if you created some kind of caching setting that would keep this code from updating? I am tearing my hair out. I’ve removed and reinstalled the plugin, cleared my browser cache, etc. Don’t know why the updated code isn’t being pulled in.

  106. 106 Beth said at 6:09 pm on April 29th, 2011:

    Also, I had an issue with the plugin conflicting with Lightbox 2. I placed the code

    after the code

    <script type="text/javascript" src="/scripts/jquery-1.4.2.min.js”>
    <script type="text/javascript" src="/scripts/jquery-ui-1.7.3.custom.min.js”>

    in jquery-slider-for-featured-content.php and then changed all instances of “$” in the code to “jQuery” in the same file, and that solved the problem for me.

  107. 107 Beth said at 6:12 pm on April 29th, 2011:

    The jQuery.noConflict(); in the example above should have open and close script tags around it.

    @Beth: Thanks for your comments. I’ll add the jQuery.noConflict(); to the latest version of the slider. New one, when you click on the images or links on the right it does not take you to the post itself. I know that’s discussed above and cannot be done at this time. However, when you click on it, the image on the left becomes the “larger” image, but then everything on the right turns white. Can we have it so that when you click on an image/link on the right and the image is enlarged to keep the thumbnails on the right?

  114. 114 B Lopez said at 2:08 am on June 9th, 2011:

    I was curious if their was a maximum size restriction for the featured images used in the slide show? I realize they resize but this one isn’t even appearing at all?

    The post in question is dated today June 8, 2011.

    I did have the featured box “ticked” but unticked it since it was not displaying. However I’d really like to have it display if at all possible, just not sure what the problem is?

    The reason I ask is because in trying to select a certain post as “featured” it appears that while the image shows up just fine in the post itself, it’s not showing up in the slider and only a “red x” appears where the image should be.

    The image itself is width=”660″ height=”440″ so not sure if it’s too big to resize correctly.

    We’ve not had this problem before so perhaps you know what the problem might be, but again we had never used an image quite this large either.

    Again if you can let me know asap. Thanks so much!

    Is it possible to show the slider only on the home page, but not on single posts?

  116. 116 Chris said at 1:32 am on June 13th, 2011:

    @BLopez. Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. The slider does have a memory limit when resizing images. To change the limit you need to edit the code. Go to the following:
    Search for:
    ini_set(‘memory_limit’, ’50M’);
    and replace 50M with a higher limit like 100M or 200M. Save the file and relaunch the slider. It should fix the problem.

    @Bangkok 101: Yes. If you add into the header it will show up on every page. You should insert it into the index.php or, better yet, create a page template that is applied only to the homepage and insert the above code into the page template. Check out: to learn more.

    I have a strange error with this plugin, which only seems to happen with Google Chrome – When I click on a thumbnail, it brings the corresponding slide into focus as expected but the “info” tab that displays the actual link to the post and the excerpt doesn’t display, instead it’s just a full size image with no info – so there’s no way of me actually clicking through to get to the post. You can see this problem on the page that I have put as my URL. This only happens in Chrome… in FireFox, it works fine! And it’s only started happening recently… with no changes being made to the plugin since it last worked.

    The title in the tabs-nav ul is tagged with an ‘a href’ that looks like it links that tab to the plugin’s functionalities. I would like to change this ‘a href’ to a ‘span’ (since it doesn’t actually link to the page). My trouble is that I cannot find where to change the functionality from relying on the ‘a href’ to a ‘span’.
